Kenneth Branagh directs and stars as Belgium detective Hercule Poirot in this big screen remake of the classic 1934 Agatha Christie whodunnit. Although the now 83-year-old story is understandably dated and pretty far-fetched by today’s standards, solid performances by Branagh, his crazy moustache, and his all-star cast (Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Daisy Ridley), sumptuous 1930s period visuals and an emotionally compelling score keeps this old clunker from going off the rails. The ending is also one that would make Agatha proud.
