It’s that time of year when the pack starts transforming our bodies to get ready for Speedos in Barcelona, circuit parties in Madrid, or just looking hot by the pool. With that comes the inevitable panic to find the next diet craze or quick fix. But assuming your long-term health is as important as looking good naked, you’ll want to spice up cardio using functional, legal options that don’t wreck your liver or kidneys.
At Woofd, we believe in staying “ready” so you never have to “get ready.” High-intensity cardio doesn’t have to be a chore on a machine. By incorporating variety, you can maintain that gay jocks aesthetic while keeping your heart healthy and your energy high. Let’s burn it off.
I’m sorry to tell you but there is no silver bullet or magic potion. Burning off those back rolls is the goal and the best way to lose body fat is to be in a calories deficit. In simple terms, eat less than your body burns in a day. The options are fairly simple; don’t eat as much or burn more calories.
Getting ripped is all about the extra cardio and keeping those calories consumed down. If the thought of 20 minutes on a treadmill makes you want to embrace that dad body, there are a few other options to spice up cardio routines.
1. Join a sports team
There are an increasing number of gay rugby teams at the moment, like the @jozicats and @sydneyconvicts, which foster an LGBT all-inclusive environment. Sports are a great burn those calories while having fun and meeting new people. Who knows, maybe your future husband is on the team.
2. HIIT classes
Want to burn fat while listening to a live DJ in a club lit environment? There are a few high-intensity interval training classes for you, like @barrysbootcamp @sweat1000 @movementx or @switchplayground These are by far the most efficient ways to burn calories in a relatively short amount of time. I often hit 1000 calories in an hour long class if I push myself.
3. Up the lifting
Simply lifting heavy weights will burn fat. The release of testosterone will increase in metabolism and assist in burning fat. Many studies have shown increasing heavy basic lifts has many long term benefits including weight loss as well as joint strength, and has also shown to be beneficial for osteoporosis.
4. Get outside
Open your door get some fresh air. Run, jog, walk, bike or take a dip in the ocean- depending on where you live. I live in a coastal town with great weather 10 months of the year and often ashamed of how much time I spend on treadmills or indoor bikes with the wild world out there.
5. Swim
I recently took up swimming. I felt my strokes could be improved and got a coach to help me with my breathing and kicks. I have gone from struggling to finish 10 lengths to completing 80 with ease. This is by no means impressive for any distance swimmers, but a bit improvement for me. The increase in fitness from swimming impacted me in other areas in terms of fitness and strength. Also, any excuse to wear a speedo is good for me!
There are countless ways to get fit and incinerate fat, but these are the methods I actually enjoy over laboring on a treadmill. I look forward to seeing the pack on Insta and Facebook conquering the world, one Speedo-selfie at a time. Keep it lean, keep it muscular, and keep it moving! 🐺📸
